A few words about myself

I have been teaching for fourty-one years at the Department of Arabic and Islamic studies in Tel-Aviv University. My publications have been focused on early Islam, with special emphasis on Qur’an, Qur’an exegesis (tafsir), and early Islamic tradition (sira and hadith).

My current research revolves around re-examining the prophetic image of Muhammad in the Qur’an as compared with his image in the extra-qur’anic sources. My most recent study in this area is: "The Seal of the Prophets and the Finality of Prophecy" (forthcoming in ZDMG).
