Welcome to Prof. Uri Rubin's Web site
A few words about myself
I am a Professor in
the Department of Arabic and Islamic studies, Tel-Aviv University.
My areas of research are early Islam, with special emphasis on
Qur’an, Qur’an exegesis (tafsir), and early Islamic tradition (sira
and hadith). Recently I have been engaged in the study of the status
of Jerusalem (including the Dome of the Rock) in early Islam, as
compared with that of Mecca and the Ka'ba. My current project
revolves around re-examining the prophetic image of Muhammad in the
Qur’an as compared with his image in the extra-Qur’anic sources.
This is done in order to explore more closely some significant
aspects of the evolution of Muḥammad’s prophetic image through the
ages.
